Media Make-up Artist
Make-up artists are artists that medium is the human body, they will apply makeup and prosthetics for theatre, television, film, fashion, magazines and lots of other similar productions. There are awards given for this profession in the entertainment industry and they are the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling and even several entertainment industry awards like the Academy Award for Best make-up and Hair Styling, there are also several other entertainment industry awards that they can win such as the Emmy Awards and The Golden Globes.
Professional licences are required by agencies to hire make-up artists on their pay roll however make-up artists are generally freelance.
All make-up Artists will have a specific type that they usually do, there is:
Fashion Makeup – This is used in the magazine photography as well as on the fashion runway, it is also commonly used in television and film.
Theatrical Makeup – Stage make-up is used as a method in conjunction with stage lighting that highlights certain areas of the actor’s faces in order to make expressions more visible to the audience from moderate distances. This usually includes making the eyes and lips as the highlights and then lowlights of the facial bones.
Special Effects Makeup – This is used to enhance facial features to exhibit metaphysical characteristics as well as fantasy make-up. Prosthetics and Plaster are usually required to create the non-human appearance. Other techniques applicable to this type of make-up are theatrical blood and ooze.
Airbrushing – An airbrush is a small operated device that sprays various media including alcohol and water based make-up and it is done by a process of nebulization. This is more popular now due to HDTV and Digital Photography as this is where the camera focuses on higher depths of detail so as there will be more focus on the face airbrushing is used to perfect the face.
Bridal Make-up - Makeup artists play a huge role in weddings as there is a lot of attention on the bridal party, there for they must look good and bridal makeup artists are there to ensure that they do. There are certain companies that specify in bridal make-up however there are some freelance artists that will also do it.
High Definition - This is an art that involves the use of light, reflectors and minerals that give the skin a flawless finish. This was developed due to the further development of high definition.
