Journalist
Depending on the contexts the term Journalist various types of editors, editorial writes, columnists and visual journalists such as photojournalists.
A Journalist is someone who collects news and information and then writes about it and distributes it and this is referred to as Journalism; however there are a lot of different types of Journalism such as broadcast journalism. Broadcast journalism is the collection and distribution on recent and current events, if the information is broadcasted rather than published then this means that it would be shown on the telly or radio where as if it was published then it will be classed as print media, shown in magazines, newspapers and online blogs, etc. Most of the times Journalists are employed by broadcasting companies however they can sometimes choose to work on a freelance basis.
Just like there is different types of Journalism, there are different kinds of Journalists, one type is a Reporter these are the ones who do the research and then go on to write it up what they have found and hen make reports on it. Reporters will be expected to go out and interview people, work in a newsroom and go to witness certain events. The information gathering part of a Journalists job is called “reporting” in contrast to the production side of the job that involves writing articles.

Journalists will sometimes work in a studio however they can also be office based too. They always have to be prepared to travel at any time of the day and this will also include them having to do it without any notice before hand, the travelling can include long distance as well. The reason for this is because they are expected to go out and witness certain events, to ensure that they will be able to cover it the best they can which they will be able to do if they are there themselves so then it will be either broadcasted or published to the public.
Over the years Journalism has developed a variety of ethics and standards. Objectivity and not coming across as being bias are always considered very important; however there is a certain type of Journalism called advocacy Journalism, this is a genre of Journalism that is mainly used for social or political purposes and it is where Journalists are allowed to intentionally adapt a non-objective point of view. This is because it is intended to be seen as factual even though it sometimes won’t be and it is distinguished from the term propaganda. These types of Journalism are not always used to change people’s names on political issues but they are also used for when people, mainly celebrities write columns as they are expressing the views and opinions in them.
